Unseen Selfies

  • We were approached by Rio Festival to create a piece of digital work that reflects on the nature of image-making in the 21st century.

  • More than one million selfies are posted daily across the globe, but most of them get little or no attention at all.

  • I was intrigued by the amount of selfies with zero likes. If no one sees them, what’s their purpose or reason to exist?

  • I drew a series of selfies with zero likes on Instagram, and pulled the mysterious quotes that belong to the original images.

  • The drawings were turned into 3-dimensional objects to be slowly deconstructed.

  • Short film clips show the selfies in motion, morphing into something unrecognisable.

  • The launch event took place at Oi Futuro.

  • “An art festival that provides a genuinely innovative angle on the surfacing tensions of art production in a digital world.”
